Volcano School is building a campus for its secondary 6-12 grade and pre-Kindergarten programs. 

​

With the lease on Old Volcano Road mauka ending May of 2028, school leadership has been working to identify a viable solution.

​

W. H. Shipman, Ltd. (WHSL) has agreed to partner with the Volcano School to develop facilities on Old Volcano Road between Nahelelani Street and Aliʻi Anela Street.

​

Friends of The Volcano School of Arts & Sciences has purchased a 10 acre parcel adjacent to the WHSL site, which will eventually provide additional facilities to support the educational program.

​

​Plans for the OVR Makai Campus include Middle School, High School, and PreKindergarten pod spaces; a central piko courtyard, an administrative building, cafeteria, labs, shops, and outdoor courts. 

​

The initial phase will focus on facilities for high school and preKindergarten to accommodate current enrollment. Subsequent phases will provide facilities for middle school along with additional labs and shops.

​

The campus site plan is set back on the property to provide space for community access facilities such as for performing arts, hula, theater, sports, commercial kitchen, and community events. ​

• Right of Entry executed with WHSL, September 16, 2024

• Envi ronmental Assessment initiated, October 25, 2024

• Conceptual Site Plan completed, January 8, 2025

• License agreement executed with WHSL, March 2025

• Special Use Permit Application, March 2025

• Planning Commission acceptance, July 2025

• Master Site Plan approval, October 2025

• Phase I permit set completed, October 2025 

• Grubbing & Grading for Phase I completed, January 2026

• Building permit Phase I, April 2026

• Phase I completed, June 2027
