Campus Development

Work continues to build a new facility at the Keakealani Campus. Once completed, the Keakealani Campus will be able to accommodate up to 250 students.
Looking at current enrollment of 350 students along with increasing enrollment interest and growth projections for upper Puna, it is clear that another site will be needed.

With the lease on Old Volcano Road mauka ending May of 2028, school leadership has been working on identifying a viable solution for a second campus.
The Volcano School is partnering with W. H. Shipman, Ltd. to develop facilities on Old Volcano Road between Nahelelani Street and Aliʻi Anela Street. Friends of VSAS have purchased 10 acres adjacent to the WHSL site to provide additional facilities to support the educational program.
The future growth plan is for the Keakealani Campus to house elementary grades K-5 and the new Shipman site to house secondary grades 6-12 and Pre-Kindergarten classrooms.

Mahalo to all those who attended the Community Input and Informational Meeting on Wednesday, January 15 to discuss the proposed new campus at the W.H. Shipman site and updates to development at the Keakealani Campus.
